Congratulations on Reaching the MBA Interview Stage

Congratulations! You have progressed to the interview portion of the MBA application process and will soon meet with a representative from your target MBA program, so now is the time to start preparing for this important step. Let us help you gain confidence and interview experience with an in-depth preparation session!

How Our MBA Interview Preparation Services Work

In our individual MBA interview preparation sessions, you will meet (via video call)* with an experienced mbaMission admissions advisor who has read either your entire application or just your resume, depending on the approach the school with which you are interviewing prefers, and who will use actual questions your target school’s interviewers have posed to previous applicants. You will therefore be able to familiarize yourself with the content and style of a typical interview at that program and practice forming and presenting effective responses. Through Q&A, feedback, and thorough planning, we can help you improve the content of your answers, your time-management skills, and your overall presentation.

  • Your consultant will start by reviewing your business school application and resume.
  • Your consultant will then prepare a list of questions to ask you that your target program has posed to other candidates in recent interviews.
  • You will meet* with your consultant for a mock interview. The interview and subsequent debrief typically take approximately 45 minutes.
  • During the debriefing, your consultant will go over what the school tends to look for during interviews, explain how to respond to different types of questions (e.g., overview, behavioral, weakness, school choice), assess your strengths, and identify potential areas for improvement.
  • After the mock interview, your consultant will be available by email for any interview-related follow-up questions.
  • You will receive a complimentary copy of an mbaMission Interview Guide for your target school (if available).

In total, the process generally takes two to three hours (not including any preparations you do on your own), but this is not a time-delimited service. If your consultant needs more time to prepare, or you have additional questions after your mock interview, this is all included!

How Mock Interviews Can Help You

  • Experience a realistic, school-specific mock interview that mirrors the format, pacing, and expectations of actual MBA admissions interviews.
  • Receive detailed, candid feedback from MBA admissions and interview experts who understand exactly what top business schools are evaluating.
  • Clarify and strengthen your personal narrative, ensuring your leadership stories, career goals, and motivations align seamlessly with your written application.
  • Identify and address weaknesses in your interview responses, with concrete guidance on how to improve clarity, impact, and authenticity.
  • Build confidence and executive presence under pressure, enabling you to communicate thoughtfully, concisely, and professionally.
  • Prepare effectively for challenging and unexpected questions, including behavioral probes, ethical scenarios, and resume-based follow-ups.

What We Cover in Our Video Interview Coaching Sessions

Spontaneous recorded video essays and interviews are an innovation some business schools now use to get to know candidates better. Our straightforward, three-part process will help you prepare to master these challenging (even fun!) new application components:

  1. Get camera ready – We offer our best practices for effectively arranging your computer/environment to ensure that you project maturity and professionalism.
  2. Review on your own – We provide you with actual questions from past video essays/interviews that you can use to independently practice and improve your improvisation skills.
  3. Practice with an mbaMission MBA Admissions Consultant – Most importantly, we create a live simulation of your target school’s video essay/interview and work with you one-on-one to ensure that you can comfortably—and confidently—relax, be yourself, and improvise on camera.

mbaMission Interview Coaching Reviews

Interview prep was exceptional – detailed mock interviews, follow-ups, and precise feedback that made me better each session.
Not only did Katy ask questions that closely resembled my actual interview, but crucially she helped me perfect my answers and gave me the encouragement I needed to enter the real thing with total confidence! Katy successfully demystified the HBS interview and truly transformed me as an interviewee!

HBS and GSB Admit

She really paid attention to the details including reviewing the application I had already submitted and tailoring the mock-interview to reflect what the actual interview could be like. In effect, there weren’t any questions I couldn’t have answered during the actual interview, which is huge considering the fact that I have lost some pretty big chances in the past from failing miserably at interviews.

How many mock interviews do I need to prepare for my MBA interview?

Most MBA applicants need only one or two mock interviews with feedback from an expert to feel well prepared for their interview. However, for Harvard Business School (HBS) interviews, which are much more intense, most of our clients gain the most benefit from three to five mock HBS interviews.

Who conducts the mock MBA interviews?

mbaMission consultants conduct our clients’ mock MBA interviews and have completed thousands of mock interviews over the years. In addition, they have been specially trained to direct the particularly challenging HBS mock interviews by our HBS Interviewer in Residence and former HBS interviewer, Devi Vallabhaneni.

Do you help with follow-up questions after the session?

Yes! Immediately after your mock interview, your mbaMission consultant will give you feedback on your performance and answer any follow-up questions you have. They are also available via email for any additional interview-related questions that arise between your mock session and your actual interview.

How soon can I book a mock interview?

You can book a mock MBA interview whenever you are ready! Typically, you can arrange a session with one of our mbaMission consultants within a day or two of signing up.

How much does interview coaching cost?

mbaMission offers several different MBA mock interview packages, depending on your needs and school. General mock interviews start at $950.

Is hiring an MBA interview coach worth the investment?

Getting tailored interview coaching and doing one or more mock interviews with an mbaMission expert can greatly ease the anxiety that many applicants feel about the MBA interview by providing structured frameworks and actionable tools. Coaching and mock interviews can also build your confidence through practice and prepare you to handle the unexpected. And working with an admissions expert gives you the “insider” angle on what MBA admissions committees want to see in an MBA interview. Investing in an interview coach is a high-value, strategic decision that for many MBA applicants can make the difference between a “ding” and an “accept.”
